What is a protection plan?

A Protection Plan is an optional add-on at checkout that helps protect eligible rentals from covered losses during the rental period, subject to the plan's terms, conditions, exclusions, and deductible. OutdoorShare is not an insurance company — protection is provided through licensed third-party insurance partners. Different tiers offer different levels of coverage.

Configuring protection plans Go to Settings → Protection Plans. Enable the protection plan feature. Add one or more tiers: Name (e.g. Basic Protection, Full Coverage) Price (flat or per-day) Coverage description — what's included/excluded Choose whether the plan is optional (customer can decline) or mandatory.

How it works at checkout

If protection plans are configured: Customers see the available tiers on the booking summary page. If the plan is optional, they can check "I decline protection" to opt out (shown with a warning about accepting full liability). The selected plan's cost is added as a line item to the booking total.

Handling claims

If a renter with a protection plan reports damage: Go to Claims and file a new claim on the booking. Upload photos and describe the damage. If the plan covers the damage, the renter's liability is limited per the plan terms. If no plan was purchased, the renter is liable for the full repair/replacement cost.
